Your rights

Australian Consumer Law guarantees

Everything we supply comes with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. These sit alongside any manufacturer warranty and apply regardless of what any warranty document says.

What the guarantees cover

Goods sold to consumers in Australia must be of acceptable quality, fit for the purpose you made known, and match the description or sample you were shown. Services must be provided with due care and skill.

If something goes wrong

  • Major failure. If a product has a major problem, you can choose a refund or a replacement, and you may also seek compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
  • Minor failure. If the problem is minor, we will repair it free of charge within a reasonable time.
  • Services. If a service problem is not a major failure, you are entitled to have it rectified within a reasonable time, and if that does not happen you may cancel and seek a refund for the unused portion.

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.

Warranty

What warranty support covers

Warranty support is available across our product range. Because we supply a number of different manufacturers, the warranty period and precise terms vary by the range you select.

The warranty that applies to your order is confirmed in your written quote. Product origin and warranty terms vary by selected range, so check your quote for the specific period and conditions covering your products.

What a manufacturer warranty typically covers

  • Defects in materials or workmanship arising under normal domestic use.
  • Mechanisms and components failing prematurely, such as a roller mechanism or a motor.
  • Faults present at manufacture that appear after installation.

What warranties generally do not cover

  • Normal wear, and gradual fading or colour change from sun exposure over time.
  • Accidental damage, misuse, or forcing a product that is jammed or obstructed.
  • Damage from cleaning methods or products that conflict with the care guidance for that fabric or finish.
  • Alterations, repairs or re-installation carried out by anyone other than us or an approved installer.
  • Products used outside the conditions they were specified for, such as an interior fabric fitted in a wet or exposed location.

These are general patterns rather than your specific terms. Your quote governs.

Care guide

How to look after each product

Most window furnishings need regular light attention rather than occasional heavy cleaning. Always follow the specific care guidance supplied with your products.

Roller and Sunscreen Blinds

Dust regularly with a soft brush or vacuum brush attachment. Spot-clean marks gently with a damp cloth and mild solution, then allow the fabric to dry fully before rolling up.

Venetian Blinds

Dust with the slats closed in one direction, then close them the other way and repeat. Aluminium and PVC slats tolerate a damp cloth; timber-look finishes should be kept dry.

Roman and Fabric Blinds

Vacuum gently on a low setting to lift dust from folds. Avoid soaking the fabric, as water marks and shrinkage are difficult to reverse.

Honeycomb Blinds

Vacuum lightly along the cells with a soft brush. Compressed air can lift dust from inside the cells without crushing them.

Curtains and Sheers

Vacuum on a low setting or shake gently. Check the care label before washing, as many fabrics are dry-clean only and some should not be cleaned at home at all.

Shutters

Dust louvres regularly and wipe painted finishes with a barely damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners and solvents, which can damage the finish.

Outdoor Blinds and Awnings

Hose down periodically to remove salt, dust and debris, and let the fabric dry fully before retracting. Retract in strong wind and severe weather.

Motorised Systems

Keep charging ports and solar panels clean. Recharge batteries before they fully deplete and avoid obstructing a moving blind, as forcing it can damage the motor.

All Products

Do not force a jammed product. Clear the obstruction or contact us, because forcing a mechanism is a common cause of damage that warranty does not cover.

If something goes wrong

How to make a claim

Making a warranty claim

  1. Get in touch. Call 02 8609 3556 or email opalblindsandcurtains@gmail.com.
  2. Describe the fault. Tell us which product and room, what it is doing, and when it started. Photos or a short video help considerably.
  3. Have your paperwork ready. Your quote or invoice confirms what was supplied and which warranty terms apply.
  4. Assessment. We assess the fault, on site where needed, and confirm whether it is a warranty matter, a repair or a replacement.
  5. Resolution. We arrange the repair, replacement or other remedy, keeping you informed of timeframes.

If you are unsure whether something is a warranty issue, contact us anyway. It costs nothing to ask, and a small problem caught early is usually easier to resolve.

Common questions

Care and warranty questions

How long is the warranty on my blinds or curtains?

It depends on the range selected, because we supply several manufacturers. The applicable warranty period and terms are confirmed in your written quote.

Does the warranty cover fading?

Gradual fading from sun exposure is normal wear rather than a defect and is generally not covered. West-facing and unshaded windows fade fastest, which is why we may recommend a more durable fabric or an external layer such as an awning.

What if a motor stops working?

Contact us with your order details and a description of the fault. Motor failures under normal use are usually a warranty matter, and we will arrange assessment.

Do I need my receipt to claim?

Keep your quote, invoice and any warranty documentation. They confirm what was supplied, when, and which warranty terms apply, which makes any claim considerably faster.

Can I clean my blinds myself?

Yes, and regular light cleaning is the best thing you can do for them. Follow the care guidance for your specific fabric or finish, because the wrong method can cause damage that is not covered by warranty.

What if I damage something myself?

Contact us anyway. Accidental damage is not a warranty matter, but many components can be repaired or replaced individually, which is usually far cheaper than replacing the whole product.

Do you service products you did not supply?

Get in touch and describe the product and the problem. Whether we can help depends on the system and whether parts are available.
