Blockout, light-filtering or sunscreen
Blockout gives the strongest darkening and privacy, light-filtering softens daylight, and sunscreen cuts glare while keeping an outward view. Night-time privacy varies, so the right answer depends on the room.

The four questions that decide most window furnishing choices.

Blockout gives the strongest darkening and privacy, light-filtering softens daylight, and sunscreen cuts glare while keeping an outward view. Night-time privacy varies, so the right answer depends on the room.

Blinds suit clean lines and tight recesses, curtains add softness and insulation, and shutters give a fitted architectural finish that becomes part of the room.

A sheer paired with a blockout layer lets one window be soft and open by day and private and dark at night. It needs a double track and a little more stack space.

Motorisation earns its place on high, wide or frequently used windows, and where grouped or scheduled operation matters. It also removes loose chains at the window.
Living with them
Loose cords and chains are the main risk at a window. Motorised and cordless options remove them, and where chains remain, tensioners should be fixed to the wall and kept out of reach.
Most fabrics need regular light dusting rather than heavy cleaning. Venetian slats are dusted closed in each direction, and fabric blinds and curtains follow the care guidance for that fabric.
Every fabric fades over time in strong sun. West-facing windows benefit from a more durable fabric or an external layer such as an awning or outdoor blind.

Before you order
Recess depth, wall alignment and hardware clearances affect light gaps, stacking and operation. A site measure lets us identify these details before manufacture and provide a clear proposal, rather than discovering them on installation day.
